Resolved: Networking Issues at one of BU’s Data Centers Affecting Some Online Services

Description of Impact

As a result of a planned network change, some unanticipated consequences caused issues accessing some servers within one of Boston University’s data centers. These unanticipated consequences affected some services like BUworks and licensing authorizations. Full service has been restored.

Incident Description and Resolution

IS&T teams have resolved the incident. The cause of this incident was determined to be a configuration item when moving networking equipment.

Additional Information

Clients with access to online resources affected may need to first clear their web browser cache per the instructions at http://www.bu.edu/tech/support/browsers/clear-cache/ prior to attempting to regain access. Clients who saw licensing issues may need to restart the application.

As a result of a planned network change, some unanticipated consequences have caused issues accessing some servers within one of Boston University’s data centers affecting some services like BUworks.

Current Status

IS&T Networking, Storage and Data Center continue to work on one of the servers needed to resolve the greater issues across campus. A licensing server has recently been affected. MatLab is one service affected by this issue.

IS&T Networking, Storage and Data Center teams ran into an issue with a network card on one of the servers needed to resolve the greater issues across campus. They are actively working to bring this server back online.

To gain access to online resources like BUworks, clearing your web browser cache per the instructions at http://www.bu.edu/tech/support/browsers/clear-cache/ and trying again may provide access after some delay.
