RESOLVED: Amazon Web Services (AWS) Outage

Description of Impact

Multiple BU services were inaccessible or degraded during the Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage. Affected services: BUworks Reporting (SAC), websites, Blackboard/Echo and many more.

Incident Description and Resolution

AWS identified the root cause as “DNS resolution issues for the regional DynamoDB service endpoints”. The resolution was complicated/delayed by the amount of traffic attempting to utilize said endpoints once back online. Amazon temporarily throttled some services to prevent them from being overloaded.
