IS&T has made available NVivo, a Windows desktop application supporting qualitative and mixed methods research, available to all Boston University students, faculty and staff. A full Mac version release is expected in Fall 2013. Until then, you can use NVivo in a virtual installation of Windows using products such as Bootcamp, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion. Some of the key features of the application include:

• Data organization and classification
• Capture and analyze social media data from Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter
• Interchange and share data
• Import a wide range of data formats including:
  • Word, Excel, PDF and rich text
  • Audio, Video and Digital Image Formats
  • Reference management software files

One caveat:  As the University has a relatively small number of licenses at the moment (500 is really a small number!) , we are carefully monitoring demand so that it won’t outstrip supply.  If you download the software and then decide not to use it, please deactivate it and let us know so we can recycle the license.
