Desktop Backup & Restore Service Upgrade

On February 21, 2017, Code42 (Crashplan) public cloud will be upgrading their server software.  Backup client devices not running a minimum of version 4.5.x software may no longer be able to backup or restore from the Code42 public cloud as of February 21, 2017.

Currently, new Crashplan client installs are deployed with the 4.5.x client software.

On January 24, 2017, IS&T will be pushing out the 4.5.x client software to clients still running older revision Crashplan software.  No client action is necessary as the client software will be upgraded automatically.

Please review CrashPlan System Requirements:

As of Crashplan 4.5.x, the following unsupported/legacy operating systems are no longer supported:

  • Windows XP
  • Mac OSX older than version 10.9
  • Linux kernels older than 2.6.32

These legacy clients will not be automatically upgraded.   Backups/restores to the Code42 Cloud may cease to function as of February 21, 2017.  Legacy clients will need to seek alternative backup methods before February 21, 2017.
