CrowdStrike update & security brief

Thanks to a huge effort by the IT Help Center and our local IT Partners, swift and significant progress has been made to rectify the effects of the outage at Boston University.

However, as it typically happens with major global events, threat actors have jumped on the opportunity, leveraging the chaos. Dozens of domains referencing “CrowdStrike” have been registered since Friday. These websites can host phishing pages, malware, or scams, and in many instances, purport to offer ‘fixes’ that users must pay for.

Avoid clicking on links that offer assistance with CrowdStrike. Don’t visit unknown websites that claim to help in remedying your issue. Instead, only contact Boston University directly for support.

If you have a computer that is affected by the outage and need help, please contact the IT Help Center at ithelp@bu.edu or 617-353-HELP (4357). BU owned systems are encrypted to protect University data and will need to obtain a BitLocker key to make the needed change.

If you are running CrowdStrike on your personal computer and feel comfortable attempting the fix yourself, please review our directions.

We are here to help you and to ensure the safety of your data.
