Zoom cloud recording retention changes – Review your saved recordings

Provost Morrison announced last week that the University has updated its requirement to retain recordings of classes delivered through Zoom. Based on feedback from the community, we are extending the announced deadline to March 13, 2022. Starting on this date, Zoom cloud recordings that are at least 180 days old will be automatically deleted, with the exception of those created between January 1 – June 1, 2020. A deleted recording may be recovered from the Zoom website for up to 30 days after it was deleted.

We encourage everyone to review recordings you currently have saved on Zoom. For any recordings you wish to retain, we have multiple options for you to choose from:

We recommend uploading recordings that should remain accessible to others, including instructional content, to BU MyMedia (Kaltura). Please be sure to delete any local copies of recordings after uploading to their final destination to free up valuable hard drive space on your computer.

Looking to simply archive your Zoom recordings? BU OneDriveBU Google Drive, and BU Dropbox are great options for storing any recordings you download from Zoom. These platforms also have desktop sync apps that make bulk archiving simple.

For additional information on how to leverage these options, please review our instructions for downloading and archiving Zoom cloud recordings. For questions or concerns about any of these options, please don’t hesitate to contact the IT Help Center for further assistance.

We thank you for your continued flexibility. As always, for any questions, you can contact the IT Help Center by emailing ithelp@bu.edu or calling (617) 353-HELP (4357). You can also visit TechWeb for more resources and help online.
