BU Information Security Shredding Event: October 9-11, 2018

BU Information Security Presents: Free paper shredding! Securely dispose of your hard drive!

Every year during the month of October, as part of National Cyber-Security Awareness Month, Boston University conducts an annual Information Security Awareness Campaign. We are happy to announce, in conjunction with the IS&T Tech Fair, that we will once again be offering 3 days of free paper shredding and collection of unwanted computing equipment to be securely destroyed and recycled. Materials brought for shredding on 10/9 or 10/10 will earn you a prize at the IS&T Tech Fair on 10/10. Additionally, we are collaborating with both BUMC IT and sustainability@BU so that we may provide a more holistic service to the BU community.

This is also a good opportunity to familiarize yourself with the University’s Record Retention Policy.  Do you have old University records that need shredding?  Bring them over and let us shred them for you!

Shredding Event days are currently scheduled as:

  • Tuesday, 10/9 from 10:00-1:00 – In the parking lot behind Agganis Arena (CRC West: 925 Commonwealth Ave)
  • Wednesday, 10/10 from 10:00-1:00- In the Granby St. Parking Lot (CRC East: 665 Commonwealth Ave)
  • Thursday, 10/11 from 10:00-1:00 – In front of the Talbot Building (BUMC: 715 Albany Street) A special prize drawing to be held for BUMC shredders

To further the University’s efforts in diverting waste from landfills and incinerators, we will also accept office electronics (including computers and laptops), batteries, and ink/toner cartridges for recycling at the above events.

Due to space constraints at the Granby lot, please consider bringing sizeable amounts of paper or large bulk items to the Agganis Arena lot on Tuesday, 10/9.

Please note: This event is to collect and securely dispose of the types of items noted above.  Please refrain from bringing for old trash items that need to be thrown out.
