Latest Zoom Updates

Looking to take your Zoom meetings to the next level this semester? Zoom is constantly releasing features and updates to improve your meeting experience. Here are some highlights from the past few months.
Live Transcription
Automatic, in-meeting live transcription is now available at Boston University. While not a replacement for captioning accommodations, live transcripts allow your participants to read spoken conversation through real-time captioning or a full transcript with speaker attribution.

End-to-End Meeting Encryption for HIPAA
Looking to provide the highest security for a meeting? Starting February 1st, Zoom Meetings for HIPAA can now be scheduled with end-to-end encryption.
This feature is currently in technical preview, so some features are not yet supported. We encourage you to review Zoom’s end-to-end meeting encryption documentation before trying it in a meeting. We’ve gathered some important details for you to know here:
- Participants must use Zoom 5.4.0 or higher to join an end-to-end encrypted meeting; they will not be able to call in over the phone. Need to update? Zoom will prompt you to update before you join your first end-to-end encrypted meeting.
- Some popular features like breakout rooms, polling, private chat, and reactions are not currently available.
- Meetings must be started by a host or alternative host; participants cannot join an End-to-End Encrypted meeting before a host is present.
Improved Breakout Rooms
Looking for assistance managing breakout rooms? Co-hosts can now create and start breakout sessions on your behalf without being made the meeting host.
This feature requires the host and co-hosts to use Zoom 5.4.6 or higher, which was released on December 7th. See how to check for Zoom updates on our TechWeb page.
