Sample Pathway
Below is an example of a four-year plan of a College of General Studies student pursuing a degree in hospitality administration. Students will work with their CGS academic advisors and the School of Hospitality Administration to plan their own pathway to a hospitality administration degree.

**Choose your electives carefully to fulfill any remaining BU Hub requirements. External courses are not eligible for Hub general education credit.
Note: SHA HF 100 fulfills a single unit in each of the following BU Hub areas: Historical Consciousness, Digital/Multimedia Expression, Teamwork/Collaboration. SHA HF 460 fulfills a single unit in each of the following BU Hub areas: Writing-intensive Course, Creativity/Innovation. Students continuing from CGS to SHA should take CGS SS 202 and CGS HU 202 to fulfill the remaining Hub units in these areas.
College of General Studies Program Requirements
- Two rhetoric courses: CGS RH 103 and CGS RH 104
- CGS RH 104 is taken during the London semester
- Two natural science courses: CGS NS 201 and CGS NS 202
- Three social science courses:
- CGS SS 104 is required and is taken during the London semester
- Students select at least two additional SS courses and will work with their academic advisor to determine course selection
- Three humanities courses:
- CGS HU 104 is required and is taken during the London semester
- Students select at least two additional HU courses and will work with their academic advisor to determine course selection
Major Requirements
For major requirements, please see the SHA website. Course descriptions for SHA courses can also be found in the BU Bulletin. SHA requires 800 hours of work experience in the hospitality industry and an international experience. Students in CGS fulfill this requirement through their CGS coursework in London. If students wish to study abroad again, they should meet with the director of student services in SHA to discuss how the credit earned on an abroad program will be applied to a degree and affect graduation.

- Two semesters of the same second language*
*Students will need to fulfill the second language requirement by successfully completing a modern foreign language course at the 112-level, or with a score of 560 or above on the SAT foreign language subject test, or placement into 3rd semester or higher. Appropriate AP scores may also fulfill this requirement. If a student does place out of the language requirement they will need to fulfill credits through elective coursework.
Concentrations
The School of Hospitality Administration offers flexibility in the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Administration program. Students are not required to choose a concentration, in which they can follow their CGS sample pathway not based on a concentration. Concentrations allow students to focus their degree on an area of particular interest to them.

Continuation Requirements
- Completion of the CGS required courses and appropriate electives
- Cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 2.00
- Completion of the required elective SHA HF 100 (Introduction to the Hospitality Industry) with a minimum ‘C’ grade
