ReadImpact: The Journal of the Center for Interdisciplinary Teaching & Learning
Impact: The Journal of the Center for Interdisciplinary Teaching & Learning is a peer-reviewed, bi-annual online journal. It publishes scholarly and creative non-fiction essays about the theory, practice and assessment of interdisciplinary education.
Recent issues have examined service learning in the classroom, integrating podcasts into courses, and teaching incarcerated students.
Stanley P. Stone Distinguished Lecture Series
This lecture series brings a notable speaker to Boston University every year. Past speakers include global health advocate Paul Farmer and award-winning artist Lynda Barry.
Sharing general education insights around the world
Through presentations, meetings, and consulting relationships,CGS faculty have shared experience with interdisciplinary learning and general education within BU and across the world.
This includes the Association of American Colleges and Universities, Association for Authentic, Experiential and Evidence-Based Learning meetings, the Association for General and Liberal Studies, and at general education conferences and symposiums around the world.

The Institute for the Study of Irish Culture welcomes students, scholars and researchers in fields of Irish studies, including history, politics, religion, literature, music and the arts.

Charles Dickens—interdisciplinary thinker
Together with the Dickens Society, Boston University College of General Studies hosted an international conference for scholars to share their research on Charles Dickens as an interdisciplinary thinker.

Where opportunity meets ambition
In Saudi Arabia, Effat University is developing a general education program to ensure that its graduates are competitive in the international job market. That’s where CGS comes in.
Effat University administrators learned about CGS through the Association of American Colleges & Universities, and they were impressed with the College’s approach to general education. The president, Haifa Jamal AlLail, reached out to CGS for guidance improving its general studies program.
Writing and the Nation
Organized by CGS faculty members and co-hosted by the Center for Interdisciplinary Teaching & Learning, an international conference in London examined writing, the state, and the rise of neo-nationalism.
