Prior to BU

Before enrolling at Boston University, I worked for the computer software/IT company called Oracle at their Burlington, Massachusetts location. I moved to Massachusetts almost a year ago right after graduating college. My job with Oracle was my first job that I accepted right out of college. The job was my first corporate entry level position and it was a challenging but great experience where I really learned a lot about corporate lifestyle and people. Even though the position required that I move thousands of miles up north I still saw it as a great opportunity. The position allowed me to meet new people, learn new things, and have a real eye opening experience of what the field of sales actually entails. Also, I knew that working for a company like Oracle and having it on my resume would be excellent.

Why Public Relations

I chose to apply for the public relations graduate program after I was contacted from one of my old college professors who told me about the program. She mentioned that my school and Boston University were actually sister schools and have a history together. After she told me about the program and scholarship opportunity, I immediately saw it as divine intervention and it was too great an opportunity to pass down. Personally, I have always had a goal to get my master’s degree, but I was never sure about what I wanted to get it in. After everything I experienced with my job at Oracle, I came to realize that sales was not for me and it was time to begin a new chapter in my life. Also, I realized that what I love and want my career to be in is public relations.

Most Looking Forward To

I am looking forward to having the experience of attending one of the best schools in the state of Massachusetts. Also, the opportunity to meet a different group of people, which I know is going to be different experience than what I had at my undergraduate school. The opportunity that I most looking forward to is being able to gain more experience and knowledge about the PR industry. Being able to spend more time in Boston is another aspect I am looking forward to because I have yet to explore many parts of the city.

After Graduation

After I graduate, I plan to most likely move back south, unless something comes up that has me staying up north longer. I want to start seriously pursuing my career path in the public relations industry. My dream company to work for has always been Disney because of the many different organizations, businesses, and networks they are affiliated with. Other than applying for job positions, I would love the opportunity to travel and begin a new chapter in my career. Plus, I am looking forward to the new opportunities I will have after getting my masters and completing my program.

A Bit About Me

An interesting fact about me that I feel is very special, unique, and says a lot about me is that I love to journal. I have been keeping a journal for many years now and I actually collect and store all of my journals. I can't even remember what got me into it because it was so long ago. However, I find it very interesting that I can go back 10 years from now and see what I was thinking and feeling around that time and see how much I have grown and changed since then. Another interesting fact about me is that I was named after a queen of Egypt who was actually the grandmother of the famous, King Tut. What's funny about that is actually on my dad's side every child born had to have a name that starts with an "R" but my dad didn't see me as having an "R" name and I was the child that broke that tradition.
