Why Visit?

If you’re considering attending Boston University, you’ve probably done some research and know a lot about us by now. But facts alone don’t tell the whole story. After all, choosing a college or university is a big step in your life. It isn’t just an academic decision. It’s personal.

What kind of feeling do you get walking around campus? After attending a class, are you inspired or tired? What’s it like to live in a high-rise residence? Are the people friendly? Will you fit in? Is it easy to get to know your professors? How many hours will you spend in the library? What will you do on weekends? Questions like these may affect your decision. And the answers aren’t on any website. You can only get them by being here.

Students often tell us visiting gave them a much clearer—and sometimes different—picture of BU. Some expect to find the campus too urban for their taste and discover just the opposite: they feel stimulated and energized by Boston. Others say that talking to current students gave them a whole new take on our campus community. Or learning more about our academic programs was enormously helpful in making their decision.

Whether you visit for a few hours or spend the night, we encourage you and your family to come and get acquainted. Here are some of the ways you can get a taste of life at BU:

  • Attend an information session and ask questions about BU.
  • Tour the campus with a student guide.
  • Sit in on a class.
  • Eat lunch with a student in a dining room.
  • Tour the facilities or meet with a member of the dean’s staff at the school or college of your choice.
