At its heart, communication is about telling stories. Boston University College of Communication (COM) is where talented graduate students learn how to hone their storytelling abilities and apply them for professional success. In fact, our reputation as a leading communication program rests on the tens of thousands of COM alumni who have gone on to top positions with leading organizations in just about every area of communication.

You’ll acquire a solid foundation in the principles of communication that you will rely on throughout your career to adapt to changes in this dynamic field. But you’ll also have numerous opportunities to apply your knowledge in the real world.

I believe this program has given me all the tools to follow my dream, my passion as a researcher and, most importantly, as a business owner. I have a vision with my company, and my clients have a vision to take their companies to the next level. The sky is the limit!

At COM, you’ll gain an edge on your peers by understanding not only what communication is today, but what it will be tomorrow. We’re breaking new ground with graduate programs in Media Ventures, Emerging Media Studies, and Media Science. We’re also reinventing traditional communication industries such as public relations, advertising and journalism by infusing them with the latest new media technologies.

We offer a range of master’s degree programs: Advertising, Emerging Media Studies (PhD program also available), Film and TV Studies, Journalism, Mass Communication (Media Science), Marketing Communication Research, Media Ventures, Public Relations, Screenwriting, and Television (with concentrations in Producing/Management or Producing/Writing).

Learning while doing.

You’ll leave COM with a master’s degree in hand and plenty of hands-on experience. AdLab and PRLab, our student-run agencies, offer Advertising and Public Relations students the chance to create actual campaigns rather than just theoretical assignments. Aspiring journalists report for regional news outlets through our BU News Service. In Film and Television or Screenwriting, you’ll write and produce films and television shows. Media Ventures candidates develop a business idea and pitch it to leading industry executives. The list goes on. You’ll also find extensive, prestigious internship programs featuring leading international communication firms. So prepare to be treated as a professional from the moment you arrive.
