Social Worker, Esperanza Academy, Lawrence, MA

Esperanza Academy, a tuition free, independent middle school for underserved girls in Lawrence, needs your counseling and social work experience to support the educational, social, emotional, and spiritual development of our students. Esperanza Academy opened its doors in September 2006 to provide hope and opportunity to young girls in a community with one of the highest high-school dropout rates and teen-pregnancy rates in the Commonwealth. Today, Esperanza Academy is a thriving institution with graduates attending some of the best private and boarding high schools in New England. We are most proud that our alumnae have a 100% high-school graduation rate and over 80% college-enrollment rate. The Academy raises 100% of its operating budget annually through private donations.
Social Worker Responsibilities:

• Provides counseling in both individual and group format to students, graduates, and caregivers as necessary

• Develops partnerships with neighboring resources and advocates referrals for additional counseling and support needs

• Participates in the admissions review and new student orientation process, including conducting home visits in conjunctions with admission staff

• Develops and implements an education and support program for caregivers in partnership with the principal, head of school, and leadership team

• Establishes collaborative and strategic relationships with diverse community organizations in Lawrence

• Serves as liaison to the Merrimack Valley Mission Hub initiative of the Episcopal Diocese of Mass. (Esperanza is a member), supporting the community outreach and education efforts of Hub partners.

 Qualifications:
 •Master’s degree in social work required; LCSW certificate desired

Extensive experience working with an urban population

Fluency in written and spoken Spanish preferred

Experience in a school environment is also highly desirable

Hours: Full Time
