Sabbatical Coverage Pastor, Full/Part-Time, UCC: Lexington, MA
The Associate Minister of Hancock Church will be on sabbatical for four months beginning the last week in April. Hancock Church seeks a sabbatical coverage pastor to work with the Senior Minister to cover the duties of the Associate Minister during this time. It is not mandatory that the sabbatical coverage pastor be ordained. Recent seminary graduates or those in the ordination process are welcome to apply. This is a good opportunity for a newer minister to be part of a multi-staff team and continue to grow in their ministry and leadership. It would also be a good opportunity for a more seasoned minister to work with a progressive, vibrant, and engaged congregation.
This could be a full time or part time position depending on the needs of the church and the chosen candidate.
Dates: April 28th through August 17th, 2025 (with some flexibility on exact dates)
Responsibilities include:
Leading worship:
– In the morning worship service the minister will preach approximately 10 Sundays, and perform other worship leadership duties regularly.
– The minister will take primary leadership of worship services when the Senior Minister is on vacation or away for continuing education.
– The minister will help to lead and conclude Worship at the Well for the remainder of the program year.
– The minister will work with the Worship Design Team to plan and set up the worship space in the transitional space once the sanctuary renovation begins.
Providing pastoral care:
– The minister will work with the Congregational Care team, and the Senior Minister to provide pastoral care for the congregation.
– The minister will work with the Board of Deacons to plan and execute the Senior Picnic for the older members of the congregation.
– The minister will assist with, or lead, any funerals or memorial services.
Providing faith formation:
– The minister will co-lead confirmation. This includes co-leading the service of confirmation in Sunday morning worship.
– The minister will lead an adult formation offering (i.e. Bible study, book discussion, etc).
Other leadership and pastoral duties:
– The minister will work with the Student Minister to wrap up the Church School year, and plan an end of year event. This could be part of the end of the program year picnic.
– The minister will take primary lead on staff meetings in the Senior Minister’s absence.
– The minister will work collaboratively with the Senior Minister, all other staff members, the moderators, and church leadership.
