Religious Studies Teacher, Grades 7 and 8, Danvers, MA
2015-2016
St. John’s Prep in Danvers, MA is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers sponsored school for young men in grades 6 through 12.
The St. John’s Prep Middle School offers a unique opportunity to help implement the academic and co-curricular program for a new population of St. John’s Prep students and be a “founding teacher” in a close-knit, supportive environment. We welcome lifelong learners who are dynamic and flexible, who continually reflect on their classroom practice, and who engage in spirited professional discourse in search of better student outcomes, innovation, and personal growth.
The Religious Studies Department offers a three-year program in grades 6, 7 and 8 that “seeks to educate the whole student – intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. We share the conviction that a student is educationally enriched when he incorporates age-appropriate theological exploration into his academic program, and actively engages his mind, imagination, and body.” A complete listing of Middle School Religious Studies courses and their descriptions can be found by clicking here.
Religious Studies teachers at St. John’s Preparatory Middle School teach four daily sections to 7th and 8th graders, and serve as an advisor to approximately 8-10 students. Seventh grade religious studies focuses on the life of prophets in ancient texts and modern times (special emphasis on the Old Testament and New Testament figures), and also the concepts of servant leadership and social justice. Eighth grade religious studies explores the diversity of religious practices around the globe with an emphasis on major eastern to western traditions. The Middle School Campus Minister (a separate position in Campus Ministry) will teach the sixth grade religious studies class.
