Music Minister, Part-Time, Baptist: Newton Centre, MA
First Baptist Church in Newton is a Welcoming and Affirming congregation affiliated with the Alliance of Baptists and the American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts. We are committed to being a faithful, thoughtful, and welcoming congregation.
We are seeking a Music Minister to lead the congregation in musical engagement and expression. Thirty years ago, this congregation had a strong classical and traditional church music foundation with a large choir and church members who performed with the BSO. In the last decade, we went through a period with more modern music and a band on Sunday mornings. The current congregation appreciates both of these periods in their history and values a range of musical expression in worship.
Our Music Minister will:
• Lead music for Sunday services (mostly piano with options for other instruments). Weekly music includes prelude, postlude, 3 hymns, special music, and other service music.
• Select and plan music for Sunday services in partnership with the pastors.
• Work with the Senior Pastor and the Pastor of Faith Formation and the Arts to reform/rebuild an intergenerational and/or adult choir.
• Introduce the congregation to new music.
• Support the life and ministry of the church.
Qualifications:
• A passion for music making in a faith community
• Proficiency on the piano. Knowledge of the organ is a plus.
• Familiarity with Christian sacred music traditions

• Excellent interpersonal skills
Salary – $20,000 per year
Hours – Quarter time, Sundays required
