Music Director Job Description

Music Director at First Community UMC plays for Sunday worship and coordinates church wide music related programing/planning in consultation with pastor and church leadership.  This is a part time position (10 ) hours per week all year long and it includes the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Play – Must be able to play the piano and the Organ.

 

  1. Coordination – scheduling of all music related program and music ministries in the congregation. This coordination will involve but is not limited to Sunday worship, possible special programs, and the organizing of a church/community choir rehearsal.

 

  1. Select music for Sunday worship service in coordination with the pastor(at pastor’s discretion) and identify times when invited singers can perform as part of worship.

 

  1. Outreach to congregation and other community organization for possible additional programing related to music and resources at church that can improve worship and connect the church with the community and educational institutions like pre-school, Boston University, music schools, etc.

 

  1. Supervise seminary students doing contextual education and/or music internships.

Core Skills must focus on the following:

  • Experience programming and hosting music programs
  • In-depth knowledge of music
  • Proficient at keyboard, piano, organ, and voice
  • Ability to use computers: particularly familiarity with music computer programs for online related worship and ministries.
  • Ability to effectively recruit, train and lead musicians/supporters for a music program.
  • Experience in vocational church worship leadership
  • Desire to mentor students/seminarians/and church members interested in music.
