Half-Time Contract Pastor, Part Time, First Parish Unitarian Universalist: Medfield, MA
First Parish Unitarian Universalist Medfield, a Unitarian Universalist congregation located in Medfield, MA, is seeking a half-time contract minister. The contract is expected to be for one year, renewable, beginning in the 2026–2027 church year. Compensation will follow UUA guidelines and will be commensurate with experience.
FPUU Medfield is a multi-generational, family-friendly congregation with deep historic roots and a strong commitment to Unitarian Universalist values. We value our Religious Exploration programming, intergenerational worship services, social justice efforts, and commitment to environmental causes. We are a Welcoming Congregation and Green Sanctuary congregation and are known within the larger community as a welcoming and progressive spiritual home.
The congregation currently has approximately 76 adult members and draws from Medfield and surrounding Metrowest communities. Members view FPUU Medfield as a treasured community that nurtures spiritual exploration, meaningful relationships, and service to the wider world. Our congregation benefits from strong lay leadership, including active worship, pastoral care, membership, social justice, and environmental teams. We also maintain a robust hybrid worship presence with volunteer-supported livestreaming each Sunday.
The ideal candidate will be an inspiring preacher and worship leader who can help us continue to live out our Unitarian Universalist values with authenticity, compassion, and imagination. We seek a warm, collaborative, and approachable minister who values multi-generational ministry, enjoys working with volunteers, and can help foster connection, membership sustainment, and congregational vitality.
The congregation is open to conversation with candidates about the specific duties and shape of the position. We understand the importance of clear expectations and healthy boundaries within a half-time ministry. We envision the role will likely include responsibility for worship leadership and preaching approximately twice per month (September to mid-June); advising and supporting our active lay-led pastoral care team; providing pastoral outreach during significant life events and transitions; supporting membership growth and engagement; attending monthly Executive Board meetings; and officiating weddings and memorial services as available.
The minister will supervise three part-time staff members: the Music Director, Religious Exploration Coordinator, and Administrator. The congregation values collaborative leadership between staff, volunteers, and the minister.
Sunday worship is central to congregational life at FPUU Medfield. Services blend intellectual and inspirational elements and include music, meditation, readings, a Moment for All Ages, and opportunities for shared joys and sorrows. Music and intergenerational participation are important parts of our worship culture.
Founded in 1651, FPUU Medfield has a long and resilient history. In the 1970s, when membership had dwindled to only a few families, the congregation voted to keep its doors open — a defining moment still remembered through our “horseshoe story” of perseverance and hope. Today, we continue to care for our historic 1789 meetinghouse while also investing in the congregation’s future through accessibility improvements, environmental sustainability initiatives, and a major capital campaign focused on building preservation and energy efficiency.
Medfield is a historic New England town located approximately 20 miles southwest of Boston. The area offers excellent schools, vibrant arts and cultural opportunities, abundant conservation land and walking trails, and easy access to the greater Boston region. FPUU Medfield sits prominently in the center of town overlooking Meetinghouse Pond and is widely recognized as an active and welcoming presence in the community.
