Director of Religious Education, Jamaica Plain
First Church in Jamaica Plain Unitarian Universalist seeks a part-time religious educator to lead our growing Religious Education (RE) Program, which primarily serves children and youth. At a time of change and opportunity within First Church, the Director of Religious Education (DRE) will be a pivotal leader working closely with the minister and the congregation in expanding the RE program and shaping the future of our urban church. First Church will be searching for a minister next year, having been guided in its spiritual journey for the last 35 years by our now-retired minister. We are currently served by an interim minister who will be with us for two years. This is an opportunity for an experienced religious educator to administer and teach, and to guide the spiritual development of the younger members of our congregation in new and creative ways. Primary responsibilities include:
• Managing and coordinating all Sunday morning classes
• Providing RE lesson plans and resources to teachers and facilitators
• Communicating with the First Church congregation about opportunities to work with children through the RE program
• Some teaching will be required.
Qualified candidates will have experience in religious education, knowledge of education principles and practices, and a strong understanding of and a commitment to UU principles. Priority will be given to candidates who have experience recruiting, cultivating, and inspiring volunteers.
