Director of Christian Formation, Sudbury, MA
The Director of Christian Formation at Sudbury United Methodist Church (SUMC) plays a key role in the mission of the church. This integral member of our staff will ensure spiritual growth across the lifespan, Christian Education, and pastoral care for an intergenerational congregation through three major areas of responsibility: educational and program leadership, pastoral care support, and worship support. There is a large Christian Education component to this role, as the director will develop and lead vibrant Sunday School programming for children and youth ages 2 years to 8th grade as well as develop and direct adult education classes and programming, including a growing gathering for retirees. In addition, the director will help to coordinate weekly visitation plans including the utilization of Stephen Ministers and caring networks. He or she will also provide inspiration, motivation, and vision for emerging and existing programs, recruit volunteers to implement programs and observances, and assist the senior pastor in the coordination of the worship calendar and special observances. Qualified candidates should demonstrate a personal commitment to Christ and to the formation of Christian disciples, have a minimum of five years’ work experience in Christian education, pastoral care, or another relevant field. A Bachelor’s degree is required with a Master’s degree preferred; equivalent applicable experience will be considered. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate familiarity with and support for the United Methodist tradition.
