Daily Free Press: Event Shines Light on Acceptance Within Religious LGBT Community

On October 21, Muelder Chapel at Boston University’s School of Theology offered a safe environment for 17 people to gather for “Sacred Stories of Emergence” as part of OUTober: a month long celebration designed to celebrate raise awareness for BU’s LGBT community.
Many of the attendees are currently graduate students in the School of Theology. Third year STH graduate student, Lambert Rahming, facilitated the evening, providing a place to for the attendees to tell stories that were personal to their backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. Each storyteller, person who came out, or anyone who was struggling to do so or going through other issues, was encouraged to light a candle on the center table.
Sacred Worth has created a community of people who are able to be their authentic selves in a place where sexuality and spiritual life can coexist. Graduate student Nathan Bakken foresees this event inspiring difficult conversations, while also reminding the community that their stories are relevant and queer and LGBT people of faith exist.
