Associate Director, Hispanic/Latino UMC Communications Team

Basic Purpose:   Gathers and organizes information relevant to Hispanic/Latino United Methodists and disseminates it throughout all levels of the church through a variety of channels. Uses social media and other means to build ongoing relationships with Hispanic/Latino congregations and members that help inform the development of content and resources.  Provides support to the director by developing relationships and building a strong constituent base. Solicits or initiates user-generated content from the Hispanic UMC community. Develops resources and other communications that directly address needs in Hispanic/Latino congregations and communities. Facilitates translation support to the agency and external constituents as needed.
Requirements:

  • The job requires a college degree in journalism or communications or at least five years’ equivalent experience in a communications-related field, such as journalism, marketing or advertising.
  • The position requires someone who is creative, energetic and highly motivated.
  • Experience working with a variety of media platforms, including social media, Internet and other digital media as well as print and video formats is needed. Broadcast experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, newsletter design and layout is also needed. 
  • Must have strong interpersonal relationship and networking skills.
  • This position requires administrative abilities and skills to appropriately plan and execute projects within budgetary guidelines. 
  • Demonstrated Spanish and English-language skills are required; proficiency in Portuguese would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience with The United Methodist Church is preferred. 
  • A comprehensive knowledge and experience with the Hispanic/Latino United Methodist constituency are needed. Certification as language interpreter would be helpful.
