Assistant Minister, Full or Part-Time, Swedenborgian: Beacon Hill, MA

The Church on the Hill, Boston is seeking an assistant minister to serve in a unique ministry setting aside the Massachusetts State House. Founded in 1818 and incorporated in 1824 as the Boston Society of the New Jerusalem, this historic congregation has offered the City of Boston access to a progressive and loving Christian message for over 200 years. The assistant minister will help our pastor, Rev. Kevin K. Baxter, in facilitating the church’s ministry and the spiritual care of its members.

Requirements

The assistant minister will work with Rev. Baxter in performing the pastoral duties as outlined in the church’s Bylaws. This means a candidate will be required to preach monthly, offer pastoral care, teach, lead prayer meetings, and be able to perform the ministerial duties while the pastor is away.  While ordination in the Swedenborgian Church is not required, the Assistant Minister must be willing to engage the theological tradition of the church as part of the ministry of the church. Upon selection of a candidate, a clear agreement stating specific regular duties will be generated; however, the church does not wish to limit choices based on a predefined set of criteria. A candidate must have a M. Div or equivalent degree, be ordained in like-minded tradition, and have excellent oral and written skills.
