Modifications made during the semester may have both academic and financial consequences. The information below is general in nature. Each semester and class has specific dates for “Drop without a ‘W” grade”, “Audit Status”, and “Drop with a W grade”. Students are urged to contact the SPH Registrar’s Office if they are unsure about consequences of dropping a class or classes.
In general, students will not be financially or academically penalized for any drops processed by a course’s “Drop without a ‘W’ grade” date set by the school and university as long as registration in one or more courses for the applicable semester is maintained. The full semester dates for each semester are listed in the SPH Academic Calendar. Students should check their individual course deadlines, rather than relying on general dates. A visual guide can be found here. Please note that half semester and intensive classes have earlier drop dates.
The University Tuition Refund Policy automatically goes into effect when students drop all of your credits for a given semester, as dropping all credits constitutes withdrawing.
Courses dropped before “Drop without a ‘W’ grade” do not appear on a student’s transcript and do not have a grade assigned. Courses dropped between the “Drop without a “W” grade” and “Drop with a W grade” are assigned automatically a “W” and will remain on a student’s transcript. Students cannot switch to or from audit status after the drop without a “W” date. After “Drop with a ‘W’ grade” date set by the university students cannot drop the class and must be assigned a grade (e.g., A-, B+).
Student account adjustments due to adding and dropping will display in the “Financials ” tab on MyBU Student portal.
