Arrival in Madrid and Orientation

We recommend that all the students (US citizens) register with the US State Department STEP (Smart Traveler Enrollment Program) prior or upon their arrival.
During the course of orientation, students will be introduced into many aspects of life in Madrid through information sessions at the International Institute.
Students will also learn about many logistical aspects of the semester in Madrid:
- Class schedules
- Internship positions
- Transportation card system
- Host families
- Health and Safety
Check the Schedules and Calendars page for orientation schedules.
Taxi from the Airport
Important: Only use the official taxis at the taxi stand (white cars with a red stripe). Do not accept rides from anyone offering transportation inside the terminal.

- The flat rate for a taxi from the airport to your homestay is €33.
- Taxis accept card payments / Apple Pay.
- We will reimburse you for the taxi at orientation.
- Keep your homestay address accessible (a screenshot is helpful in case you can’t connect to Wi-Fi).
Check the Madrid Public Transportation Card and Multi Card page to find all the information about Madrid Transportation System.
