Madrid Public Transportation Card and Multi Card
Find all the official information about how to move around Madrid at the Ayuntamiento de Madrid website and Metro de Madrid website.
Madrid is a sprawling modern metropolis, and while it may seem overwhelming to navigate, it has various well-developed options to make sure you get to your destination.
Transportation Card
BU Madrid will take care of the application process for the Transportation Card.
All students will receive their cards during Orientation if they have uploaded on time on Terra Dota a copy of the first page of the passport (the one with your name, date of birth and passport number information) and a passport-style photograph with white background.
Important: If you do not submit your documentation on time, you will have to apply for your card through the Consorcio de Transportes Link.
The Transportation Card is a great way to reduce transportation cost while in Madrid! The PTC permits users to obtain the “30-Day Pass”, which allows unlimited use (for 30 days) of public transportation throughout the Comunidad de Madrid (metro, bus, and the Cercanías train system).
The price for the 30-day youth pass (Abono Joven) is 10€ until new prices are announced.
This card also grants you free entrance to the Reina Sofia, Prado, and Thyssen museums.
Important: The card is personal and non-transferable. No other person may use it. If you lend it to someone else, authorities will remove your card and fine you.
Did you lose your metro card? No worries! It can easily be replaced. Here’s how:
You can go to any of the metro card offices listed in the picture below and they will replace your card with the money that you had on it. You need to bring your passport and pay 6€ for the new card.
