Rachel Sprung elected to national public relations board

Rachel Sprung ('11, SMG'11), president of Boston University's chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), was recently elected to the PRSSA National Executive Committee. Rachel, a double major in public relations and business administration, decided to run for the position of national vice president of regional activities after helping plan and coordinate COM's highly successful PRSSA regional conferences for the past three years.

“Being a part of COM's conferences helped me learn a great deal about public relations and event planning," said Sprung. "In my new role, I'm proud to pass that knowledge along to fellow public relations student leaders around the country.”

The election took place at the annual PRSSA National Assembly in Austin, Texas, where Rachel ran against five other candidates for the position. Each candidate submitted credentials and letters of recommendation, presented a written platform and speech, and  answered questions from delegates. The organization's bylaws require candidates for national office to win a majority of first-ballot votes or face a second-round runoff between the top two vote getters. Despite the field of six, Rachel was elected on the first ballot.”

"Rachel is a rock star," said COM professor and BUPRSSA faculty advisor Steve Quigley. "We've been blessed with an amazing PRSSA chapter at COM for many years, but Rachel's election marks the first time we've showcased the talent of our student leaders on the national stage. I couldn't be more proud of Rachel and our organization."
