The Rev. Dr. Robert Edgar Sherman, age 94, of Monroeville, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 18, 2025. Bob was born May 3, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Edgar and Jane (Henderson) Sherman. After his mother’s death in 1937, he was raised by his father and step-mother, Eva (Pike) Sherman.

He graduated from Otterbein College in 1953 and from Duke University’s Divinity School in 1956. That year he was ordained by the EUB (Evangelical United Brethren Church), which became a part of the United Methodist Church in 1968. In 1956 he began his 47 years of pastoring in churches in Youngstown, Cleveland, Warren, East Palestine, Tiffin, Sterling, and Toronto, Ohio; and in Pitcairn, PA. In 1983 he received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Boston University’s School of Theology.

Bob was a 32nd degree Mason for over 50 years, and an officer for various Kiwanis Clubs. He enjoyed traveling, and was in over 100 countries and all 50 states.
On November 16, 1990 he married Judith “Jude” McCullough Pungitore Sherman, who survived him. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Ann (Carl) Harting of Leeper and Jennifer (Travis) DeLong of Monroeville; grandchildren, Rachel, Laura, Elizabeth, Anthony, Paul, Emma, and Madelyn; and great-grandchildren, Brennan, Delilah, Behr, Kiera, Lilly, Leonardo, Nicola, and Elijah. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Donald Sherman; and his step-daughter, Nicole Streets.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the Monroeville United Methodist Church, 219 Center Road, Monroeville, PA 15146.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Monroeville United Methodist Church designating it to Bob’s favorite charity: UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).
