Reverend Dr. Henry James Scherer, Jr., (’64,’74)
Bing graduated with a B.A. from West Virginia Wesleyan College, earned his S.T.B. and S.T.M. from the Boston University School of Theology, and completed his D.Min. at Hartford Seminary. A devoted United Methodist minister, he served faithfully for 40 years in Troy, NY; West Brookfield, MA; Whitinsville, MA; East Hartford, CT; West Springfield, MA; and Enfield, CT.
A man of creativity, curiosity, and deep spirit, Bing built his log home in West Brookfield and filled his life with many passions. He enjoyed playing the bagpipes with St. Patrick’s Pipe Band in Glastonbury, CT, as well as photography, oil painting, reading, gardening, writing, travel, and bird watching.
Bing met the love of his life, Cora Sue Toothman, and together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Sue Scherer; his children, Krister Scherer and his partner Patty Uccello of Manchester, CT, Peter Scherer and his wife Sarah of Toledo, WA, and Susanne Scherer of Enfield, CT; and his cherished grandchildren, Phoenix, Lyrycal, and Elyjjah.
