Huffington Post: My Planned Parenthood Story
The Huffington Post publishes an essay by Jennifer Wright Knust, School of Theology professor of New Testament and Christian origins, entitled “My Planned Parenthood Story.” In response to controversy surrounding the uses of Planned Parenthood, Professor Knust recounts a personal connection to the clinic. Her story outlines the summer before she begins seminary and the obstacles she faced in her personal life. Professor Knust writes of her experience confronting many difficult decisions and feeling as though Planned Parenthood provided refuge and safety during a time of confusion.
Knust remembers being unsure of how she knew she could turn to Planned Parenthood for help. She remembers the organization’s caring and dedicated staff when telling her story. The willingness of Planned Parenthood staff to acknowledge the worth of human bodies and lives stands out to Knust. She writes, “These men and women are my heroes. Their faith in the dignity, integrity, and value of women–all women–is inspiring. It isn’t just inspiring; it’s astounding.”
