Dean Pak Delivers Stob Lecture at Calvin University

On Monday, January 24, Dean G. Sujin Pak delivered the lecture titled “Wrestling with the Word: Biblical Interpretation through Church History” as part of the Calvin University Stob Lecture Series.

“Dr. Pak is an engaging and talented historian focusing on how the Bible – and the old testament in particular – has been understood among past generations of Christian interpreters, especially in the reformation period,” said Karin Maag, director of the Henry Meeter Center for Calvin Studies at Calvin University, as she introduced Dean Pak. “I have long admired her clear and cogent thinking.”

“Early Christian readers have long recognized that scripture often offers stories that help illuminate the task of biblical interpretation itself. Scripture provides cues to its own reading,” Dean Pak explained when she opened her lecture after recounting the story of brothers Jacob and Esau in the book of Genesis.
