Organist, Newton Highlands, MA

Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC, is accepting applications/resumes for the position of salaried Organist.  Responsibilities include playing organ, accompanying the small, but very capable choir, and accompanying occasional soloists for the 10 am Sunday worship services, as well as rehearsing with the choir on Wednesday evenings.  Occasional piano accompaniment will also be needed.  Appropriate seasonal services are also required (for example: Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Christmas Pageant and two services Christmas Eve, among other liturgical offerings).  All of this is to be undertaken in collaboration with the Music Director, who directs the choir and the program.  The position begins upon discovery of the appropriate candidate, and it is hoped that he or she will be available within six weeks.  NHCC has a history of high expectations, true collaboration and encouraging community.  We seek a classically-trained musician with top-notch, creative hymn-accompanying abilities, who is also open to exploring contemporary or jazz collaborations, with the ability to read chord changes and offer improvisation.  The choir sings a repertoire that is diverse, from the classics of the church to quality works of today.  The organ is a recently-refurbished Hook and Hastings instrument that dates from the 1920’s.  Our salary is in line with the guidelines of the American Guild of Organists.  NHCC is easily accessible to the D branch of the MBTA’s Green Line.   We are an equal opportunity employer and an Open and Affirming parish.  Please email resumes to the Music Director, Lynd Matt, at LMatt@aol.com.
