As cyber threats worldwide increase in complexity and frequency, there has been a significant rise in the demand for specialized expertise in cybercrime investigation. The 2025 ISC2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study—including practitioners and leaders from North America, Latin America, the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa—revealed that 59 percent of respondents cited critical or significant need for skills within their organizations, especially around the areas of AI, cloud computing, risk, and application security. Thirty percent noted that they can’t find the talent to hire.
The master’s in Cybercrime Investigation & Intelligence is a STEM-designated program that broadly focuses on the techniques and principles used during investigative and legal procedures by law enforcement and intelligence professionals, as well as private-sector practitioners engaged in cybercrime investigation, digital forensics, and threat intelligence investigation and prosecution. Coursework covers critical areas of cybercrime investigation that are essential to the field and broadly address the technical, investigative, analytical, and legal dimensions of cyber-enabled crime—including areas such as AI and deepfake cybercrime investigation.

Master’s Thesis Option
(Two courses/8 units)
Students have the option to complete a master’s thesis by taking two master’s thesis courses (8 units) in addition to the program’s 8-course (32 units) requirement. The thesis must be completed within 12 months and is available to degree candidates who have completed at least four courses toward their degree and have a GPA of 3.7 or higher. Students are responsible for finding a thesis advisor and principal readers within the department. The advisor must be a full-time faculty member; the principal readers may be part-time faculty. Department approval is required.

How Much Does This Program Cost?
BU MET programs offer the flexibility of part-time or full-time study, either on campus or online. Tuition, fees, and total program cost are determined by enrollment status. If you enroll in 1–2 courses (4–8 units) in a semester, you are charged the part-time per-unit rate. If you enroll in 3–4 courses (12–16 units) in a semester, you are charged the full-time semester rate.
