Profile
Alicia Torija López is a researcher and lecturer specializing in history, memory, art, and cultural heritage. She studied History at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where she also earned her PhD, and completed research fellowships at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Newberry Library in Chicago.
Her research focuses on social history, feminist perspectives, museums, and the critical study of the Spanish Civil War and the postwar period, with particular attention to visual representation and the construction of cultural memory. She has published extensively, including the Tejiendo Pasado series, as well as books and studies that extend beyond the twentieth century. Alongside her academic career, she has been closely involved in the defense and promotion of cultural heritage, serving for ten years as Vice President of Madrid, Ciudadanía y Patrimonio, a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of the cultural, historical, artistic, and natural heritage of the Community of Madrid. Beyond her professional work, museums and cinema are her two great passions.
