The Church as Sanctuary

  • Starts: 8:00 am on Friday, October 17, 2025
  • Ends: 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 18, 2025
What is the meaning of sanctuary over the next four years? With the removal of the “sensitive locations” policy, the growing resistance towards sanctuary cities, and increased rhetoric on mass deportations, what does it mean to reimagine sanctuary for today? This conference seeks to explore how religious communities are responding to the political and humanitarian crisis facing (im)migrants in our modern world, and the lessons to be learned from this ancient tradition. This conference is open to graduate students who are interested in contributing to the growing field of Christianity and migration studies. Disciplinary approaches can include Bible, theology, ethics, history, philosophy, missiology, and social scientific approaches to the study of Christianity & migration.
