On-Campus Student Conference Travel Fund.

The Boston University School of Public Health Graduate Student Life Office (GSL) is committed to promoting learning opportunities outside the classroom for all its students enrolled in an on campus degree program. A unique component of master’s and doctoral education is learning through collaboration and presentation at regional, national, and international conferences. The GSL Student Conference Travel Fund Program (SCTFP) supports students so that they may take advantage of these opportunities by applying for travel reimbursement. Students must be enrolled in an on-campus degree program to apply for the Student Conference Travel Fund.

NOTE: All students traveling overseas must be registered through the International Travel Registry. For more information, please refer to BU’s International Travel Risk Policy.

The following program guidelines still apply.

Program Guidelines:

  • Students must be enrolled in an on campus degree granting program at the Boston University School of Public Health (MPH, MS, PhD, or DrPH), be in good academic standing and actively registered (not on leave).
  • Students must be a major contributor to an oral or poster presentation being given at a National Public Health or Scientific conference and must be presenting. Funding will be restricted to one student in each presentation. In the case where multiple students are presenting it is recommended that one person be designated as the requester of funds.
  • Students requesting funds from the SCTFP must relinquish support from all other funding sources. When appropriate students should first seek funding support from the grant in which the research was conducted.
  • Generally, the material on which the presentation is based must emerge from research done while a registered student at the School of Public Health.
  • Funds are reimbursed after the conference has concluded.
  • Please note that funds are limited. A committee with representatives from across the School reviews the applications in order to equitably distribute funds amongst the SPH students who apply.
  • Students must affiliate themselves with the Boston University School of Public Health when registering for the conference.
  • It is expected that if for some reason a student does not receive communication about their application they must inform the committee as soon as possible before the conference dates.
  • All students who are awarded reimbursement funds may be asked to participate in a School Assembly.
  • Students are eligible for one conference reimbursement per degree program at BUSPH.
  • Applications are due at least two months prior to the conference. Submit the application to Mary Murphy-Phillips in Graduate Student Life.

Award and Reimbursement:

If awarded, you will receive a confirmation email with the exact amount that you will be reimbursed (see guidelines above for more information) within three weeks of the application received date. An email confirmation of your intention to use this funding is required. Please keep original receipts for all items you might eventually submit for reimbursement. You must submit all information required within 21 days of the last day of the conference. Submissions received after 21 days will not be funded.
