Faculty and alumni from BU School of Social Work (BUSSW) presented at a recent symposium hosted by the International Association for Social Work Groups (IASWG). The presentation, “Understanding Process Groups: An Experiential Workshop,” was given by Lecturer Será Godfrey-Kaplan (MSW’08), Adam Glick (MSW’94), Prof. Mark Gianino, Tfawa Haynes (MSW’07), Crystal Jones (MSW’12), Prof. Donna McLaughlin, Rabiatu Orlandimeje (MSW’21), and Faith Perez (MSW’19). They engaged in a real-time mock process group, followed by a discussion of group dynamics and interventions.

McLaughlin also gave a presentation called “Racial and Social Justice in Group Work Education Today.” She discussed how social work group educators can infuse curriculums with anti-oppressive theory, literature, activities, and digital media to achieve a racial and social justice lens. “The focus group discussion provided an opportunity for participants to share strategies for the development of a contemporary, innovative, and inclusive course curriculum,” said McLaughlin. She also highlighted her new course, “Social Work Practice with Groups,” which is currently in development.
