Mark Gianino

Mark Gianino is a social work practitioner and researcher interested in the treatment of trauma and mood disorders, working with LGBTQ+ clients, and treatment approaches including cognitive, solution-focused and emotionally focused therapy. He is the co-editor of Revitalizing Our Social Group Work Heritage: A Bridge to the Future (Whiting & Birch, 2013) and author of numerous journal articles as well as “From Conflict to Co-parenting: Considerations in Clinical Practice with Separating and Divorcing Same-sex Parent Couples,” a chapter in LGBTQ Divorce and Relationship Dissolution: Psychological and Legal Perspectives and Implications for Practice (Oxford University Press, 2018).

Since 2012, Gianino has been part of the Missing Link Project research team, a study of quality and effectiveness in social work continuing professional education funded by the Association of Social Work Boards’ Foundation for Research and Consumer Education in Social Work Regulation. In 2016, he received the Mary Lisbon Group Worker of the Year, an annual honor conferred by the Massachusetts Chapter of the International Association for Social Work with Groups. He is a past recipient of BUSSW’s Teaching Excellence Award and a former member of the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Social Workers and the board of directors for the National Association of Social Workers, Massachusetts Chapter.
