Biography

E. David Zepeda, MBA, MS, PhD is Clinical Associate Professor of Health Law, Policy, and Management in the Boston University School of Public Health. He has a PhD in Business Administration with a concentration in Supply Chain and Operations, an MS in Statistics, and an MBA with a concentration in Operations Management. His scholarship is motivated by the problem of healthcare costs continuing to outpace economic growth with decreasing returns on the improvement of health for certain segments of the population. He deliberately adopts an interdisciplinary lens in his research to address consequential issues that span across levels of analysis. The American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) selected a co-authored study for the 2020 Edgar C. Hayhow Award for the article judged the best from among those published in 2019 in the Journal of Healthcare Management, ACHE's official journal.

Dr. Zepeda also has over 10 years of experience in the industrial automation and newspaper industries holding various positions in engineering and management as well as consulting. Through his research, teaching, and industry experience, Dr. Zepeda has worked with a variety of organizations including: VA Boston Health Center, Mass General Hospital, Hennepin County Medical Center, ABB, Maschinenfabrik WIFAG AG, World Publishing Co., Oklahoma Offset Inc., and Dow Jones and Company, among others. He is currently under contract with VA and Mass General Hospital. Dr. Zepeda is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS). He is currently serving as BUSPH Faculty Senate Chair, on the Editorial Review Board of the Production & Operations Management (POM) journal, and as the President of Outreach of the College of Healthcare Operations Management of POMS. He also has served as a board member for the State of Minnesota Chapter of the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
