Staff Senate Mission Statement
The Staff Senate represents the interests of the staff in order to strengthen relationships and foster a climate that promotes and empowers staff to participate in the shared governance of Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH). Its purpose is to consider and act, as appropriate, on all matters affecting the professional concerns of staff. The Staff Senate shall promote the exchange of information and provide a forum for expressing views on matters relating to personal and professional well-being, staff development, school culture, community, and SPH and University policies.

Organization by Units
The different departments of the school are divided into units, as listed below. Each unit shall elect one representative from its staff, for a total of 8 unit representatives.

Elections
Fall Election Timeline
Elections typically take place between November and December, providing an opportunity for members to nominate candidates, cast their votes, and welcome newly elected representatives. This period is crucial for shaping the leadership and direction of our Staff Senate, so be sure to participate and make your voice heard!
- Nominations Open: Mid-October, begin accepting nomination letters.
- Nominations Due: Last Monday in October, nomination letters may be submitted through the annual nomination form or to the Vice Chair.
- Polling Period: First two weeks of November, unit elections will occur within respective Units, while at-large polling will be hosted on the Staff Senate website.
- Announcement of Results: Newly elected representatives will be announced during the November or December School Assembly.
- Staff Senate Meeting: November or December meeting will be held to include all incoming and outgoing representatives.
- New Senator Orientation: December or January, meeting will be held based on new members availability.
- First Meeting of New Senate: Late January, the first meeting of the newly elected Staff Senate will take place.
