Lecturer Sara McCabe Honored with NASW-MA Social Policy & Change Award

The National Association of Social Workers’ Massachusetts Chapter (NASW-MA) announced that its 2021 Beverly Ross Fliegel Social Policy & Change Award will go to Sara McCabe, a lecturer at Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) and chief operating officer of the Wayside Youth & Family Support Network. The award recognizes significant contributions made to social policy or social change by an NASW member.

McCabe, a licensed independent clinical social worker, began her social work career at Wayside in 2003 as a counselor and teacher. She has since served in a variety of leadership roles at the agency, including assistant director of Wayside Academy, training and risk management director, and vice president of campus services, where she oversaw strategic planning, marketing, and development. McCabe became Wayside’s first COO in 2021.

In addition to her work at Wayside, McCabe is an educator known for her training on worker safety in mental health care settings. She joined BUSSW as a lecturer in the spring semester of the 2020-2021 academic year and currently teaches Adult Psychology in the School’s On-Campus MSW Program.

As winner of the Beverly Ross Fliegel Social Policy & Change Award, McCabe joins a distinguished line of BUSSW faculty recipients, including Dawn Belkin Martinez, clinical associate professor, and Lee Staples, professor emeritus and lecturer.

McCabe and the four other winners of NASW-MA’s 2021 awards will be honored on December 16, 2021 at the virtual 48th Annual Awards Celebration.
