Dr. Ruth Paris Promoted to Full Professor with Tenure

Ruth Paris
Professor Ruth Paris, Boston University School of Social Work

Dr. Ruth Paris has been promoted to full professor at BU School of Social Work (BUSSW). A past Fulbright Scholar, she is the associate director for research at the BU Wheelock Institute for Early Childhood Well-Being. Paris is an expert in infant and early childhood mental health; her community-based research examines the strengths and stressors affecting parent-child relationships and parenting practices in families with trauma histories.

During her time at BUSSW, with support from major federal and foundation grants, Paris has developed and evaluated multiple attachment-based interventions for their ability to impact parenting, parent-child relationships, and child development, as well as their feasibility, accessibility, and cultural responsiveness.

Paris recently co-developed and evaluated a dyadic therapeutic parenting intervention, BRIGHT (Building Resilience Through Intervention: Growing Healthier Together), which is offered through treatment programs and healthcare settings for parents in substance use recovery and their young children. She also co-developed a curriculum guide in association with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The free guide provides in-depth social work education on infant and early childhood mental health. Her expertise has been featured in media stories, conferences, and presentations around the world.
