ADVICE TO STUDENTS
The aspirations of public health are only achievable through engagement with the underlying political, economic, and social forces that shape the world around us. This inevitably is informed by our values. How do we bridge the gap between values and perspectives that often seem at odds in fractious times? How do we find sufficient common ground across political parties and ideologies on which to build the structures that will improve the health of populations? And, in particular, Red in a Sea of Blue: A Public Health Perspective asks: how do we make room for conservative voices in the public health conversation to build a coalition of all interested in a healthier public?
