During the transfer evaluation cycle, courses undergo different stages of review. Some courses are already pre-approved in Transferology, while others require a syllabus for review. Syllabi are sent to designated academic departments for review and once a decision has been made the evaluation will be updated to reflect the approved equivalent course. During the evaluation process, your course approval status may change over time. Key terms, definitions and sample credit evaluations can be found below:

Key Terms for Viewing Transfer Credit in MyBU Student

Unit – Number of credits.
Term – The term (semester) the credit is posted to at Boston University.
Source Term – when the course was taken at a prior institution.
Incoming Course – Course number and title taken at prior institution.
Units taken — The number of credits you completed at your previous college or university. BU evaluates transfer credit on a one-to-one basis, so this number is used to determine how many BU semester credit hours will be posted to your record.
Grade Input – Grade earned for courses at prior institutions.
Units – The number of units received at Boston University.
Grade – All evaluated transfer courses will appear with a grade of “T” once the evaluation is complete. This also applies to courses that do not result in transfer credit.
Status – Status indicates whether external courses have been reviewed. An evaluation that lists “Posted” means courses have been reviewed/evaluated. An evaluation that lists “Rejected” indicates courses have yet to be reviewed/evaluated.

Evaluation Key for Pending/Tentative Courses in MyBU Student

All “pending/tentative” credit will show as zero units. Once a course has been approved, the units will be updated to reflect the units taken at your prior institution.

Please review how a transfer credit evaluation may change over the course of the credit evaluation process.

Fall courses were all evaluated and credit was posted to the student record.

Additional Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 courses were added to the record. These courses are visible to the student, but have not been evaluated by the Credit Evaluation team. Courses will appear as rejected when newly submitted transcripts are added to the student’s record, but no evaluation has been completed. This does NOT mean the courses were rejected for transfer; they are simply in the process of being evaluated by the Credit Evaluation team.

Additional coursework has been posted to the student record and evaluated. Some courses were entered as direct equivalents, while others remain under review or require additional documentation before a final determination can be made.

All evaluations have been posted. Note, one course was not accepted for credit at Boston University. This course shows a grade of TX. This is considered a completed evaluation because all courses from the submitted transcripts have been evaluated with a BU equivalent course and are posted.
