In accordance with Boston University’s academic policy, full-time students currently enrolled at BU are strongly encouraged to obtain prior approval from their school or college before enrolling in courses at non-BU institutions for transfer credit. Transfer credit is not guaranteed if approval is not obtained prior to enrolling in courses at non-BU institutions.

If your course is already approved in Transferology, your school/college does not need to submit an approval form. However, it is highly recommended that you speak with your school/college prior to enrolling to ensure the course/courses will count toward your degree/program requirements.

For courses not previously approved in Transferology, an approval form must be submitted by your school/college to credeval@bu.edu for processing. Please work with your school/college at Boston University to have your potential transfer credits evaluated. Your school or college will contact you regarding the approval status. If you have not heard back within 10 business days of submitting the request, please reach out to them directly for an update.

Upon completion of the approved course, it is your responsibility to submit an official transcript showing your final grade to the Office of the University Registrar. Please note that without prior approval, either through Transferology or from your school/college, transfer credit cannot be posted to your student record.

Please note that transcripts submitted after one full term from the completion of the course may be impacted by expiring Transferology approvals. To assure equivalencies consistent with what appears on Transferology, please submit your transcript no later than one month after the completion of your external course.

Official transcripts must be sent directly from the external institution; students are not permitted to submit official transcripts themselves. Paper transcripts are official only if received in a sealed envelope from the issuing institution—any opened envelope voids official status.

Electronic transcripts are accepted if transmitted directly by authorized third‑party services (for example, Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse). Electronic files uploaded or emailed by students will not be accepted as official.

Transcripts may be:
Emailed to: CEtscrpt@bu.edu
Mailed to: Credit Evaluation Department, 881 Commonwealth Avenue 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02215

Transcripts take 3-4 weeks to process once they are received by Boston University, so please plan accordingly. The CEtscrpt@bu.edu email is NOT a contact point and should only be used as a destination for your official transcripts while using authorized third-party sources (such as Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse). For any inquiries about your transfer courses, please contact credeval@bu.edu.
