Successful Hybrid Teams
What is Hybrid Work?
When some staff members work on-site while others work remotely or have modified work arrangements if creates what is called a ‘hybrid working team’.
As the institution provides flexible work opportunities to BU staff, leaders must evaluate the best and most effective ways to facilitate productivity and efficiency while providing work arrangements that help them succeed at work and in their personal lives.
While hybrid work can work, it requires intention. With intentionality, you can have higher communication and coordination between team members. Leaders would benefit from
- taking a systematic approach to designing new work arrangements,
- being deliberate in setting goals and expectations,
- rethinking how productivity and work quality are assessed, and
- creating new ways for their teams to stay connected and engaged.
Staff will benefit from
- being thoughtful about meeting goals and expectations,
- communicating clearly and often, and
- being open and flexible to new ideas and solutions.
A hybrid work setting might be familiar to some and new for many. It will take time, experimentation, and a growth mindset to find a structure that is optimal for work, for each individual, and for the team.
