Prior to Hire
As a new BU Terrier, there are some essential tasks that need to be completed before or on your first day. We have compiled a list of them here to best prepare you for your start date at Boston University!
Preboarding Guide
New staff employees hired by Talent Recruitment Services will receive a Preboarding Guide along with their offer letter. This guide will review all the steps you will need to take to be prepared for your first day, as well as some resources to help you along the way.
Form I-9
All new employees, both faculty and staff, must complete a Form I-9 on or before their third day of employment. We recommend this be completed prior to your start date if possible, but it can also be completed in person at our HR offices on your first day. More information regarding our I-9 process can be found here.
University Account Creation
Once your hire has been processed into our payroll system, you will receive a welcome email from ithelp@bu.edu with instructions to create and/or update (former BU employees, students, or affiliates) your BU login and Kerberos password. This email should arrive a few days prior to your start date.
- Log into Red Carpet: once you successfully create/update your account information, you will receive a second “Success” email instructing you to complete your Red Carpet onboarding tasks.
- Please note that only employees working at least 50% of a full-time schedule with a 9 month or more assignment are required to complete the Red Carpet tasks.
Request your Terrier Card
To receive your University ID (Terrier Card) for your first day, we suggest you complete your Terrier Card Request Form prior to your start date. You will need your BUID number to submit the request form. Your BUID number will be emailed to you approximately 24 hours after you successfully created your account. Medical Campus employees will need to visit the ID office (650 Albany Street) on or after their first day to get their Terrier Card.
