Reggie Harris (SSW’15), a BU School of Social Work (BUSSW) alum and former Cincinnati city council member, has taken a new role as deputy assistant secretary of economic development at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In his statement announcing his departure from city council, Harris emphasized his ongoing commitment to public service and housing advocacy, aiming to have a broader impact at the federal level in supporting cities. Previously, he won the Hubie Jones Urban Service Award at the BUSSW 2021 Alumni Association Awards

quotation markIn a statement on Tuesday, Harris said he will oversee more than $7 million in HUD-managed economic development and housing funds. 

‘I ran for Cincinnati City Council as a continuation of my lifelong commitment to public service, and accepting this role will continue that journey. I’m a social worker by trade, who found myself at the forefront of helping to provide quality affordable housing for those in need in the Avondale Community. In my time in office, I’ve continued that work and fought to grow Cincinnati and make it the most inclusive city it can possibly be. Now, I will head the call to continue that work upstream and have an even greater impact to make sure that our partners at the Federal level are giving cities an opportunity to receive the support they need,’ the statement from Harris said in part.”
