WBUR: CISWH Dir. Tami Gouveia Discusses Trump’s Progression Toward Project 2025’s Goals

In an episode of WBUR’s On Point, Tami Gouveia, director of the Center for Innovation in Social Work & Health (CISWH) at BUSSW discusses the significant influence of The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 and the America First Agenda on President Trump’s current administration. Despite Trump’s public disavowal of Project 2025 during his most recent presidential campaign, analysis indicates that approximately 60–70% of his executive actions align with proposals from these documents. Gouveia notes that many individuals involved in crafting Project 2025 now hold positions within the administration, further embedding its principles into the federal government.
Excerpt from “How Closely Is Trump Following the Project 2025 Blueprint?” by Paige Sutherland and Meghna Chakrabarti:
“The sensitive zones in the past – designated hospitals, schools, and places of worship – have been considered pretty much hands off by ICE. Since Project 2025, which changed the definition of sensitive zones and how they could be treated by ICE and border patrol, we’re seeing that ICE is showing up in places that are sensitive. We know that they’re showing up at court hearings and grabbing people before they even get to stand trial and maybe be held responsible locally for a crime that they’ve committed. People have been snagged right out of the courtrooms, and that’s been a major shift and that connects directly to Project 2025.”
